In To The Wee Hours!
This year is incredible! So many parties and I need a whole bunch more new cocktail party dresses to do them justice. I just love the pressure! The cocktail party dresses are interesting and I love to shop for them. As always I love my favorite Nordstrom's store in Providence Place but I'm going to make sure I'm not getting in to too much of a rut and see what Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Sak's have to offer and I might dig a little and visit some of the Boston independents as well. Maybe a quick trip to New York would be in order as well.
So Nordstrom's it is and what can we see on first blush. A couple of eye-poppers in the mini tradition and using some fabrics that are very appealing. Right off I like this dress for a cocktail I have next week. It's a BCBGMAXAZRIA Beaded Brocade Dress in a stitched brocade, beaded and sequined Empire waist overlaying a charmeuse panel that falls in pleats to the hem. Attached charmeuse tie wraps to the back. The brocade in a white gold is charming and the halter and back are very appealing. Nordstrom's item # 204790 for $340. One down - keep looking!
Actually you know what. I have a less than formal do at a good friends and because her crowd are all very informal, I think I'll wear a pretty top and a good pair of pants. So let's see what's out there that's cocktail party standard. Ah ha!
Here's a sharp combo - Gibson Printed Chiffon Top & Paige Premium Denim Flare Stretch Jeans. the jeans are velvet-embellished denim and the top is 'floaty' according to Nordstrom's, whatever that means! Actually the top is quite dramatic and the jeans informality seems to go OK. The colors fit (cobalt blue top) too. the top is item #203596 and price is $88. The jeans are item # 204878 and are $220. Have to say the jeans cut will suit my legs which, though I say it myself are OK! I think that'll work.
Now at least a couple more pukka cocktail party dresses. Can't do the top and jeans routine too often of I'll get ostracized. Oh yeah, this one's the right stuff. It's an Elie Tahari 'Jada' Rope Strap Silk Dress. Nordstrom's say it's
figure-flattering silk and I think it will. A little different touch is the thin, contrast-color ropes that tunnel through the front and back of the scooped neckline. The bodice is a gathered Empire band with ruffles and ruching is accentuated by a thin tie that wraps around the waist to tie in front or back. A chiffon hem finishes the look. Pretty nice little number in carnelian (orangey red). Nordstrom item # 205577 at $368.
You know what while I was marking the Jada rope dress, I spotted another Tahari which is adorable. It's a Elie Tahari 'Delores' Dress with deeply slit angel sleeves and a wide, banded neckline with decorative buttons at the shoulder style a full-bodied tunic dress cinched with a narrow patent belt. I love the length (38" shoulder to hem). Actually the model is a little like me and I think that sold me (Tee! Hee!). Anyway the item # is 192086 and the price $398.
Wow, and I never strayed from good old Nordstrom's. Think I'm ready for a special most favored customer discount, don't you?
